WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR IN AN APPLICANT?

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Passion & Energy

Demonstrate your love of learning (and your subject if Secondary) and your desire to pass on your passion for learning to the students

Confidence & Personality

Can you speak confidently and in an engaging way to students?

Professionalism

Your appearance, your mindset and the way you conduct yourself.

Resilience & Commitment

‍Teaching is enjoyable but also challenging. You'll need to demonstrate you're up to the task and have the resilience to push through on the days when you want to stop!

A Desire to Learn

Many trainees initially find that they don’t have the breadth of subject knowledge, vocabulary or grammar skills expected of a teacher. This need not be a barrier, but you must have an inherent desire to expand your knowledge and skills.

Qualifications Required

  • UK university degree (2:2 or above) or recognised equivalent qualification

  • GCSE Grade C / Level 4 or above in both :

    • English Language and Mathematics

  • Plus...for Primary applicants:

    • GCSE grade C / Level 4 or above in Science

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (Enhanced DBS) check

What 'teaching skills' are we looking for?

At interview we will be looking for evidence of relevant skills, including:

  • Reflective/evaluative skills – can you reflect on your own performance?

  • Ability to prepare materials and present to a range of audiences.

  • Subject knowledge – We will assess your areas of strength and those in which you need additional support. Following your interview, you may be asked to complete an online Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course as a condition of our offer.
